Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 whole Vidalia onions, diced or finely chopped Use sweet onions if Vidalia onions are unavailable.
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened Make sure it's at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • 1 1/2 cups sharp white cheddar cheese, freshly grated Grate your own cheese for the best melting quality.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lightly grease your baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  3. Soften the cream cheese by leaving it out at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Peel and dice the Vidalia onions into small pieces, about the size of a pea.
Mixing
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped onions, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, grated cheddar, and black pepper.
  2. Mix until well combined and no white streaks of cream cheese remain.
Baking
  1. Scoop the mixture into the greased baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, checking around the 20-minute mark for doneness.
  3. Look for a golden brown top and bubbly edges; if the top looks pale, bake a few minutes longer.
Serving
  1. Let the dip cool for 5 minutes before serving to improve texture.
  2. Serve warm with your favorite dippers such as tortilla chips, pita chips, or fresh vegetables.
