Ingredients
  

Red Batch
  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal Best for maintaining crunch
  • 1/2 cup White chocolate chips Melt carefully
  • 4 to 5 drops Red gel food coloring Use gel instead of liquid for better color
  • 1 1/3 cups Powdered sugar For coating
Blue Batch
  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal Best for maintaining crunch
  • 1/2 cup White chocolate chips Melt carefully
  • 4 to 5 drops Blue gel food coloring Use gel instead of liquid for better color
  • 1 1/3 cups Powdered sugar For coating
White Batch
  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal Best for maintaining crunch
  • 1/2 cup White chocolate chips Melt carefully
  • 1 1/3 cups Powdered sugar For coating
Festive Mix-Ins
  • 1 cup Red, white, and blue candy-coated chocolate pieces
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons Patriotic sprinkles Add before serving for color

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and label three large zip-top bags as red, blue, and white.
  2. Measure powdered sugar into each bag to have it ready for coating.
Red Batch
  1. Melt 1/2 cup of white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
  2. Stir in red gel food coloring until well combined.
  3. Pour 3 cups of Rice Chex cereal into a mixing bowl and drizzle with melted chocolate, folding gently to coat.
  4. Transfer to the labeled red bag with powdered sugar, seal and shake until coated, then spread on baking sheet to cool.
Blue Batch
  1. Repeat the process for the blue batch: melt another 1/2 cup of white chocolate, add blue gel food coloring, and coat 3 cups of Rice Chex.
  2. Shake in the blue bag with powdered sugar and lay to cool on the baking sheet.
White Batch
  1. Melt the last 1/2 cup of white chocolate and coat the final 3 cups of Rice Chex.
  2. Shake in the white bag with powdered sugar and spread out to cool.
Final Assembly
  1. Let all batches set for about 20 minutes until firm to the touch.
  2. Combine all cooled batches in a large bowl with candy-coated chocolate pieces and sprinkles.
  3. Toss gently to combine before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week. This recipe can be made 1-2 days in advance.
