Ingredients
  

For the Salmon
  • 4 pieces skin-on salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each) Skin helps lock in moisture.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Divided for preparation.
For the Spice Blend
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika Key spice for blackened flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon light brown sugar Adds a touch of sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper Adjust for spice preference.
For Garnish
  • 1 bunch fresh parsley or cilantro Optional for garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F and prepare a baking sheet with a tablespoon of olive oil.
  2. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels and place skin-side down on the baking sheet.
  3. Brush or drizzle the remaining olive oil over the fillets.
Mixing Spice Blend
  1. In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, brown sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Stir until the mixture is well blended.
Seasoning and Baking
  1. Generously spoon the spice mixture over each salmon fillet, pressing it into the flesh.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes until flaky and done.
Serving
  1. Let the salmon rest for about a minute before serving.
  2. Garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro if desired.
  3. Serve warm.

Notes

Pat salmon dry for the crispiest crust; let rest after baking. Adjust spices according to taste.
