Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with whisked eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
- Slice the mozzarella into sticks about one inch wide and three to four inches long.
Coating
- Roll each mozzarella stick in the flour, ensuring a light, even coating.
- Dip the flour-coated stick in the whisked egg, then roll in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently for the crumbs to adhere.
- Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating on each stick for extra protection against leaks.
Baking
- Place the coated sticks on the prepared baking sheet, spaced about an inch apart.
- Optionally, freeze the sticks for 30 minutes before baking to firm them up.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through for even browning.
- Once golden brown and bubbly, remove from oven and let them rest for 2 minutes before serving.
Notes
For best results, always use low-moisture, block-style mozzarella. Double coat the sticks and freeze before baking for minimal leaks. Serve immediately for optimal gooeyness.
