  • 5 large Ripe bananas The more spotted, the better.
  • 1 cup Whole milk Can substitute with non-dairy alternatives.
  • 0.5 cup Chopped walnuts or pecans Optional.
  • 1 box Yellow cake mix 15.25 oz box.
  • 0.5 cup Dark brown sugar Packed; light brown sugar can be used as a substitute.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.75 cup Unsalted butter, cold Sliced into pats.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan by coating it with cooking spray or butter.
  2. Mash about two and a half bananas in the pan and spread evenly across the bottom.
  3. Slice the remaining bananas into rounds and scatter them over the mashed layer.
  4. Pour the whole milk evenly over the banana layers.
  5. If using nuts, sprinkle them on top.
  6. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the banana and milk layers without stirring.
  7. Slice the cold butter into pats and distribute them evenly on top of the dry cake mix.
  8. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle over the butter.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 55 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbling around the edges.
  2. Let the cake cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce. The cake can be customized with chocolate chips or coconut, and variations include lighter or gluten-free options.
