Method
Preheat and Prepare
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C). Coat an 8x8 or 9x9 inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
Melt the Butter
- Melt the stick of salted butter in a microwave-safe bowl for about 45 seconds to a minute. Pour it into the prepared baking dish.
Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
Add the Buttermilk
- Pour 1 3/4 cups of cold buttermilk into the dry mixture and stir until a thick, sticky batter forms.
Assemble the Biscuits
- Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Spray your hands with nonstick spray and gently spread the dough evenly.
Cut and Bake
- Cut the dough into 9 squares before baking. Bake for 25-30 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through.
Check for Doneness
- Biscuits are done when they are golden brown on top, spring back when pressed, and a toothpick comes out clean.
Notes
Use real buttermilk for the best results, ensure the oven is preheated to the specified temperature, and consider variations with cheese, herbs, or spices.
