Ingredients

Bread and Base
  • 1 loaf French or Italian bread This forms the base for the garlic bread.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Unsalted butter is preferred for better control of saltiness.
Garlic and Seasoning
  • 4 to 5 cloves garlic, minced Fresh minced garlic is essential for flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Cheese Toppings
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese This forms the primary cheesy layer.
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese Parmesan adds a crispy, salty top layer.
Garnish
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped For added flavor and garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and prepare a baking sheet.
  2. Slice the loaf in half lengthwise and lay both halves cut-side up on the baking sheet.
Making Garlic Butter
  1. In a bowl, mash together the softened butter, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until fully combined.
  2. Ensure the garlic is evenly mixed throughout the butter.
Assembling
  1. Spread the garlic butter generously across both halves of the bread, all the way to the crust edges.
  2. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over the butter, followed by the grated parmesan.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  2. For extra crispiness, switch to broil for the last minute, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  3. Let the bread rest for 2 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Avoid microwaving; reheat in a 350°F oven for better results. Variations like adding shredded cheddar or herbs can elevate the flavor.
