  • 1 packet beef gravy mix
  • 1 10.5-ounce can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 10.5-ounce can French onion soup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch Used to thicken the gravy
  • 2 tablespoons cold water To mix with cornstarch
For the Main Dish
  • 2 pounds cube steak About 6 to 8 pieces

Method
 

Preparation of Gravy Mixture
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the beef gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, French onion soup, and 1/2 cup of water. Stir until smooth and uniform.
Combining Ingredients
  1. Pour some of the gravy mixture into the bottom of a slow cooker. Place the cube steaks on top, then cover with the remaining gravy mixture.
Slow Cooking
  1. Cover and set the slow cooker to cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. Check for tenderness at the 6-hour mark.
Thickening the Gravy
  1. Remove the cube steaks and mix cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry. Stir this into the simmering gravy in the slow cooker until thickened.
Final Cooking Step
  1. Return the cube steaks to the slow cooker, switch to high, and cook for an additional 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, choose high-quality cube steak. Serve this dish over mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the gravy.
