  • 8 large Medjool dates, pitted Should be chopped for easier blending.
  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream Use a good-quality brand for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup whole milk Or milk of your choice.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon Optional for added spice.
  • Pinch sea salt Enhances the flavors.
Optional Toppings
  • Whipped cream For topping.
  • Extra date pieces For garnish.
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon For garnish.
  • Drizzle of honey Optional for added sweetness.
  • Crushed nuts Optional for texture.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Pit the Medjool dates if they are not already pitted. Roughly chop them to help them blend easier.
  2. If dates are dry, soak them in warm water for 10-15 minutes, then drain and pat dry.
Blending
  1. Add the chopped dates into the blender first, followed by 1 cup of milk.
  2. Scoop in 3 cups of vanilla ice cream, add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt. Add cinnamon if desired.
  3. Blend on high speed for 60 to 90 seconds until smooth.
  4. Stop to scrape down the sides of the blender and blend again for another 20 to 30 seconds.
Finishing Touches
  1. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more dates or milk as needed.
  2. Pour the shake into two tall glasses.
  3. Top with whipped cream, cinnamon, date pieces, or a drizzle of honey if desired.

Notes

For an even thicker shake, use frozen dates or freeze the glasses before serving. Can swap ice cream for a dairy-free alternative.
