Preparation
- Wash the cucumbers well under cold water and slice them thinly using a mandoline or sharp knife.
- Peel and slice the white onion thinly, then add it to the bowl with cucumbers.
- Sprinkle the salt over the cucumber and onion mixture, and toss to coat evenly.
- Let the mixture sit at room temperature for about 2 hours, allowing the salt to draw out moisture.
- After 2 hours, pour the mixture into a colander to drain and rinse under cold water to remove excess salt.
- Return the drained cucumbers and onion to the bowl and add the heavy cream or sour cream, followed by the vinegar and chopped dill.
- Gently stir to combine, ensuring each slice is coated in the dressing.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to enhance flavors.
Notes
For best texture, slice cucumbers as thinly as possible. Don't skip the salting step to prevent a watery salad. Adjust vinegar according to your taste preference and chill longer if you have time.
