Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is fully softened for best results.
  • 1 cup Brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 large Eggs Add one at a time.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1.5 cups Chocolate chunks Use bittersweet or semi-sweet.
  • 1/2 cup Walnuts or pecans, optional Can be omitted.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and let it fully heat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar for about 3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chunks and nuts (if using) gently until evenly distributed.
  6. Grease a 12-inch cast-iron skillet thoroughly and spoon the cookie dough into it, spreading it out evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and the center looks slightly soft.
  2. Allow the skillet cookie to cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing into wedges.

Notes

For a salty-sweet version, sprinkle flaky sea salt over the top before baking. Let the cookie cool before slicing to ensure clean wedges.
