Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and let it fully heat.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar for about 3 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chunks and nuts (if using) gently until evenly distributed.
- Grease a 12-inch cast-iron skillet thoroughly and spoon the cookie dough into it, spreading it out evenly.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and the center looks slightly soft.
- Allow the skillet cookie to cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing into wedges.
Notes
For a salty-sweet version, sprinkle flaky sea salt over the top before baking. Let the cookie cool before slicing to ensure clean wedges.
