Ingredients

For the Meatballs
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 slice white bread
  • 1/4 cup milk (for soaking the bread)
For the Grape Jelly Sauce
  • 12 ounces grape jelly
  • 12 ounces chili sauce or ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Method

Preparation
  1. Step 1: Soak Your Bread - Tear up a slice of white bread and drop it into a small bowl. Pour the milk over it and let it sit for a couple of minutes until it turns soft and mushy.
  2. Step 2: Mix the Meatball Ingredients - In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, egg, minced onion, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Squeeze out most of the milk from the soaked bread and crumble the bread into the bowl. Mix until just combined.
  3. Step 3: Portion and Shape - Preheat your oven to 400°F. Use a cookie scoop to portion meatballs uniformly, rolling them gently between your palms and placing them on a baking sheet.
  4. Step 4: Bake the Meatballs - Bake for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Step 5: Whisk the Sauce Together - In a medium bowl, whisk together grape jelly, chili sauce, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and red pepper flakes until smooth.
  6. Step 6: Simmer It Low and Slow - Pour the sauce into a saucepan over medium-low heat and simmer for 6 to 8 minutes.
  7. Step 7: Combine and Coat - Add the cooked meatballs to the sauce, gently stirring to coat. Let it simmer together for another 3 to 5 minutes.
  8. Step 8: Serve and Enjoy - Transfer meatballs to a serving bowl, add toothpicks, and serve warm.

Notes

For the best meatballs, mix beef and pork, don't skip the bread-and-milk soak, and keep meatball sizes uniform. Double the recipe for larger gatherings and keep warm in a slow cooker if needed.
