Blooming Process
- Pour cold water into a small bowl. Sprinkle gelatin powder evenly over water.
- Let sit for 5 minutes without stirring until the gelatin absorbs water and softens.
Making the Cream Base
- Combine cream, milk, and sugar in a medium saucepan. Whisk to distribute sugar.
- Heat over medium, stirring occasionally, until mixture starts steaming. Do not boil.
- Remove from heat as soon as it steams. Add the bloomed gelatin to the hot cream mixture and whisk until dissolved.
- Add vanilla extract and whisk again until completely smooth.
Straining and Chilling
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into measuring cups or bowls.
- Pour the mixture into 6-ounce ramekins or serving glasses and refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours or overnight.
Serving
- Serve with desired toppings such as fresh berries, sauces, or compotes.
Notes
For best results, allow panna cotta to chill overnight for improved flavor.
