Ingredients
  

For the Danish Base
  • 1 package King's Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (12 count)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Cheesecake Filling
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature Must be at room temperature for smooth mixing.
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk Helps the filling set.
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice Brightens the flavor.
For the Topping (Optional but Recommended)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup strawberry or raspberry jam For dolloping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a standard baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the entire slab of King's Hawaiian rolls horizontally through the middle without separating them.
  3. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking pan.
  4. Mix together the melted butter, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl, and brush half of this mixture over the bottom layer of rolls.
Making the Cheesecake Filling
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Add the 1/3 cup of granulated sugar and mix until fully combined.
  3. Mix in the egg yolk, vanilla extract, and lemon juice until smooth.
Assembling the Danish
  1. Spread the cheesecake filling over the buttered bottom layer of rolls.
  2. Dollop the jam on top of the cheesecake filling if desired.
  3. Place the top half of the rolls back on top, press gently, and brush the remaining cinnamon butter mixture over the top.
Baking
  1. Bake the pan in the preheated oven for 18-22 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  2. Let the danishes rest for 5-10 minutes before adding the glaze.
Finishing Touch
  1. Make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls and let it set for 3-5 minutes before slicing.

Notes

These danishes are best served fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven before serving. Variations with different jams can be tried for added flavor.
